When the first pictures of the Chanel Fall collection "Superstition" were released, I couldn't wait to swatch the new Rouge Coco Shines (I also fell in love with their cream blush in "Presage," which I reviewed here). Rouge Coco Shines are the first ever lipsticks I was able to comfortably wear (I have since also discovered Dior's Addict Lipsticks), they're the only lipsticks I find do not irritate, and are forgiving enough to wear even on dry, sensitive lips.
The original Rouge Coco Shine formula is sheer and hydrating, which some people found too light and started described them as overpriced tinted lip balms. In response to that, Chanel released 2 variations of Rouge Coco Shine this season - Hydrating Sheer Lipshines, similar to the original formula, and Hydrating Color Lipshines, a version with more pigmentation, but still hydrating. I was expecting to like the shade "Secret," a shimmery baby pink limited edition Hydrating Sheer shade. Unfortunately it was so light I could barely see it on my lips, and instead could only notice it gathering up in dry patches... not pretty. Then during another visit to a Chanel counter a few weeks later, I randomly swatched the Rouge Coco Shine Hydrating Color Lipshine in Rendez-Vous, a bright flamingo pink shade. It was love at first swatch! If I were in a cartoon, my eyes would have instantly become hearts the moment I tried it on (like that Whatsapp emoticon with hearts as eyes!). It didn't take much thought for me to bring this home.
For the rest of the day I walked around squealing inside: "gaaahhhh I'm wearing bright pink lipstick! ^_____^," while peeking into every reflecting surface I came across to stare at it (LOL yes. I do that sometimes...). I also like that it leaves a flattering pink stain on the lips as it wears off.
When most lines come out with a more pigmented version of their sheer hydrating lipsticks, the pigmented shades usually end up being slightly drying. Chanel is the exception - the Hydrating Color Lipshine in Rendez-Vous is creamy, hydrating, and very easy to wear. I never thought I could pull off a cool-toned bright pink like this, but this one is so forgiving, so hydrating, and so comfortable on. It's soft and glossy, just the way I like my lips to look. I feel like Rendez-Vouz brightens my complexion - even when I'm wearing barely anything else on my eyes and cheek these days (it makes my teeth look whiter too).
Rendez-Vouz is such a fun and happy shade; it really perks me up and I can see it brightening up the gloomy winter months to come.
And what's even better is that Rendez-Vous is part of Chanel's permanent line, so it's not going anywhere. Yay! :)
If you want more professional swatches and shots of Rendez-Vous (together with shots of the shade "Secret" which I passed on), Temptalia has a really good post on both of them - link!
