January was unusually cheery this year. Probably because Chinese New Year came early (it usually happens in February), so all month Hong Kong went straight from New Years excitement to Chinese New Year festivity - no holiday blues. Right now I'm sitting here at my aunt's place, decked out in red, warm dumplings in my belly, mahjong sounds in the air. So far so good, 2014!
Skincare wise, it's been all about the oils this month. I finally got around to trying the Caudalie Divine Oil, which has become my go-to body moisturizer after morning showers. It's great for days I'm in a hurry because it absorbs into the skin in seconds. Another "divine" favorite is the Antipodes Divine Face Oil, my current night time moisturizer. It's a lovely mix of avocado and rosehip oil that leaves skin plump and hydrated. After reading so much about exfoliating toners, I also started using the Dr. Wu Renewal System Intensive Renewal Toner this month (thanks Crystal for the recommendation!). The Mandelic and Glycolic Acid in the toner tightens and renews skin, prepping it for serums and face creams that follow. I want to try out the toner for a bit longer before reviewing it, but for now it's definitely been a nice addition to my skincare routine.
I've been switching up my makeup routine all month, but the one product that I've been obsessed with has been the Chanel cream blush in "Presage." The formula is truly the best - pigmented, creamy, blendable. Call me weird, but I love the feeling of dipping my finger into the cushion-y, powder-cream, almost fluffy product. That's my best attempt at describing its gorgeousness.
Also, I've been trying out the Hitachi Eye Crie heated lash curler. I looked high and low hoping to replace my broken Panasonic heated lash curler (which I dropped and cracked around Christmas... sniff), sadly it's no longer carried in stores. The Hitachi lash curler was the closest replacement I could find. They're both good in different ways - the Panasonic creates a more natural looking curl, while the Hitachi one gives a more dramatic look. I also like that the Hitachi one heats up literally in seconds, much faster than my Panasonic one.
Other life things in January - my diary and driving.
Writing in my Q&A A Day 5 Year Journal every day is part of my 2014 New Year resolutions. I'm proud to report back that January was a success! I did miss a few days, but quickly made up for them the next morning. Hopefully I'll be able to keep it up!
Another one of my 2014 goals is to get used to driving in Hong Kong. Hong Kong drivers sit on the right, so everything is the opposite of what I'm used to in the US. The streets here are narrow, the drivers are aggressive, and the parking spaces are so, sooooo tiny. It'll take me a while to get comfortable with the Hong Kong driving scene, but I've been practicing a lot more this month by driving my family around, which I'm quite proud of.
How was your January?
